Stanley McDonald started in the car business as a salesman in 1926 at a Dodge, Plymouth and Dodge Truck Dealership in Yakima, Washington. As his success in the business grew, he ventured out on his own and bought his own Dodge store in Roswell, New Mexico in 1949. In 1958, now joined by his son Doug McDonald, he converted an adjacent old filling station to a Volkswagen store. That Volkswagen store was only the second Volkswagen dealership in the nation and was allocated 7 Beetles per month! In comparison, our Volkswagen store here on Broadway receives an average of 200 Volkswagen cars per month in the summer.
McDonald Automotive Group In 1965, the McDonald's sold their homes and businesses in Roswell and established the current location for Volkswagen in Littleton, Colorado. The name Continental grew to include Audi, and building from the success of those franchises, Doug McDonald looked to grow the business. In 1988, Mr. McDonald purchased Monarch Mazda and Volvo, the property next to Continental Volkswagen. In 1994, the Audi franchise was added. The entire dealership name, which includes Hyundai, is now called McDonald Automotive Group.
Family Owned and Operated The business is still family owned and operated. Doug McDonald is President of the company and four of his five sons have joined him and are working in the family business. Michael McDonald is the Vice President of McDonald Automotive Group and the General Sales Manager for Volvo, Mazda and Hyundai. Jim McDonald is the General Sales Manager for Volkswagen and Audi.
